Life's Passing Too Fast

I can't believe it's already the end of September and I haven't posted forever... :(

We've celebrated Sky's 10th birthday, dealt with her bout of headlice, her lack of performance at school, really at her mothers', Mel's lying, cross-country, ineligibility issues, accountability issues, boys and how they interact with girls, texting, swim lessons, preschool, snacks, nursing, supply issues, work, IRS, SSA & insurance reports AND normal life!!!

Okay, that made me tired. I'm off to the library to get some great book like "Don't Dress Your Six-Year Old Like a Skank" or something so liberating to make me laugh and smile at my motherhood.

What Was I Thinking???

On Wednesday night at 10:00 p.m. Roy and I decided that we were going to bite the bullet and drive 8 hrs to Post Falls to watch our boys play football. They flew. We didn't tell them we were going, thinking a surprise would be fun.

Friday morning dawns and they leave for school, dropping Melynda off on the way to her school. Frantically, we unpack the car from the week (sad, I know) and pack it for the night. We are racing the clock cuz (this is a spelling I learned from 17 year old son) we didn't know how long it would actually take us with 3 kids in the car, 1 being 5 months, 1 being 3 and then said 13 year old. Mel didn't know we were going so we picked her up from school for a "family" and said "something has come up." Hit the road and told her where were going and what were doing - her response, "Sooooo, I'm going to miss practice???" Insert eye roll from me and a "uh, yeah" from Dad.

Drive Thur breakfast - freeway and it's already 10:00 somehow.

I'm in a good book and the first 2 hrs flies by til I finish the book and have to listen to the noise in the car. I.e. face reality of a 8 hr drive!!!

Baker City - Paco has to pee. Dead man's Pass - Javi needs to nurse. Kennewick - lunch at McD's. Yummy? Still no. My turn to drive and I get the wind and dirt looking tornadoes while Roy sleeps - yes, he actually sleeps in the car while I don't/can't. Next stop is some rest area with free coffee. You can imagine how yummy that was - I did imagine and said no....

Can't be certain if that was the last stop but we made it to Cour d'Alene by 4:30 and had a few hours to R&R (yeah, right) before the game. The kids were so excited about the motel (Paco's term) that we basically changed into our Cougar gear and left for the game.

Game time was great and our boys played good and hard. We lost 40-35 so big bummer there. With all the flag happy refs, we didn't get done til 10 p.m. (PST) and we were to have supper after the game with other families so it was a LATE night. Early morning to be exact as it was 1:30 a.m. MST when we turned off the lights. Everyone crashed fast and hard and morning came ALL TOO SOON!!!

The drive home took 30 minutes longer. I got a new Michael Buble CD at Starbuck's and love it!

Fast long trip and nearly 900 miles later we made it home. Yes, I'd do it again. I love my boys.

Silence

It's quiet. Too quiet for 10:15 in the morning. Where's my little monster who is always terrorizing me for being on the computer, getting everything out of the closets and cupboards and in general, making messes??? School. Yes, school. I should be getting lots of work done right now. And I am, right?!

He was tired this morning. Poor little duff has grown accustomed to staying up late and sleeping in... his goal is to stay up for the News and makes it many a nights. So this morning, when we woke him for school, he said, "I don't want to go to school today." "Why?" "Because, I'm too tired." To which we replied, "Too bad!" And he said, "I'm going anyway?!?!" "YEP!" That was the end of it and he got up, got dressed and was ready to go in 30 minutes. Happily, too!

His school is 9-12 on Wed and Fri mornings. He was excited to go and didn't cry when Roy dropped him off. Some of you might remember how it went last spring and it wasn't anything like this. This just reinforces to me that he is indeed growing up, is a "big boy" and if I keep blinking, he won't want anythinig to do with us way too soon. Boo Hoo.

What am I going to do with my time while he's away? Well, I have some much needed/neglected office work to do that must be done as the Federal Government doesn't care that I have little ones taking my time and distracting me from doing correct and timely work. Once I am caught up on the backlog, I plan to devote one of those mornings to office work and then other to visiting with adult females, going to the gym, enjoying a Starbuck's, blogging, internet time and most importantly, ENJOYING SOME ONE ON ONE TIME WITH JAVIER!!!! He'll be 6 months old in 6 days and I can't believe it!

I'm also looking forward to making his baby food from scratch, like I did for Paco and taking advantage of the produce to get some food in the freezer for him. Here is Javi this morning enjoying some snuggly time with Moma.
